bet you’ll never say August in Silver Spring is boring again! After a 5.8 Earthquake, aftershocks and
Hurricane Irene several news agencies reported hit Silver Spring the hardest in the area; August in Silver
Spring was pretty exciting! (I’ll take
boring myself!) If nothing else, it
shows how resilient we are as a community!
Silver
Spring’s September is shaping up to be quite exciting too – but thankfully
I’m not talking meteorologically! ·
The
Fillmore
is finally opening (we hope) with Mary J. Blige on
September 15th. This long
awaited concert venue is expected to attract a variety of music and
entertainment acts with a capacity of 2,000.
Notice I didn’t say “seating” capacity because it appears this is a
“standing only” venue, so bring comfy shoes! ·
Silver Spring Jazz Festival is placing local talent
Marcus Johnson as the headline act this year on September 10. This 8th annual free concert
will be held at the Silver Spring Civic Center at Veterans Plaza. ·
Unfortunately, the annual Magical Montgomery Arts
Festival that usually takes place in Silver Spring will not take place this year due to lack of funding. Hopefully it will be able to come back in

September is National Cholesterol Education Month,
a good time to get your blood cholesterol checked and take steps to lower it
if it is high. National Cholesterol Education Month is also a good time to
learn about lipid profiles and about food and lifestyle choices that help you
reach personal cholesterol goals. High blood cholesterol affects over 65 million
Americans. It is a serious condition that increases your risk for heart
disease. The higher your cholesterol level, the greater the risk. You can have high cholesterol and not know
it. Lowering cholesterol levels that are too high lessens your risk for
developing heart disease and reduces the chance of having a heart attack or
